Trying this again
We're all older and wiser now, so I'd like to try again with my kids to log not only our vegetable garden but also the produce that we get from the local company Mother Earth produce. I am excited to share recipes and more! We are also doing some 4-H Gardening projects!

Welcome Spring!
How fitting that our first post falls on the Vernal Equinox, the first day of Spring! All winter long we schemed and dreamed about our vegetable garden.
Last week we scoped out our garden space. We have a 50 foot long by 8 foot wide row at the Black Mountain Community Garden. Right now we are still sharing our space with another gardener until their spinach bolts. The soil is black and full of worms, a good sign!
We went to Jesse Israel & Sons Nursery and Garden Center to pick up 6-broccoli plants, 4-cauliflower plants and 6-cabbage plants. They survive well in chilly weather so we can plant them soon.
Friday, March 13th we started a bunch of seeds we bought from the Black Mountain Farmer's market. Local gardeners and farmers select the seeds they order from the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange so I trust that the varieties they carry do well in our area. Here's a list of seeds we started:
Buttercrunch lettuce
Arugula
Bok choi
Tennis Ball Lettuce
Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce
Basil
Dill
Most of them had 4-5 days germination but we had seedlings in only 2 days! I guess they were anxious to get started!
